REBECCA COMERFORD

REBECCA COMERFORD (mezzo soprano) is the founder of Ojai Youth  Opera Company. She has sung both nationally and internationally as an opera soloist with some of the world's finest houses, under the baton of Metropolitan Opera conductor Steven Crawford in Rigoletto at Carneigie Hall, the New York City Opera VOX series, the National Chorale at Lincoln Center, Spleto Opera Italy, Neue Oper Wien, Opera Memphis, Utah Festival Opera, Tanglewood Music Center, The Granada Festival for Spanish Song Spain, Brevard Music Center and Aspen Opera Theater. Notable roles include Carmen (Carmen), Siebel (Faust), Tisbe (La Cenerentola), Meg(Little Women), Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia) and Lucy Brown in the Off Broadway Revival of The Threepenny Opera. She holds a Masters Degree of Music from Manhattan School of Music in New York and a Bachelors Degree in Voice from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. While in New York she co-founded City Youth Opera Company, a nonprofit Children’s Opera Theater at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. As a young artist with the Metropolitan Opera Guild, Rebecca performed Opera Outreach for over 15,000 kindergarten through high school students, sharing her love of opera and has brought this unique model of Opera education to the Ojai Vallley.
